David K. Hughes, Ed. D., has been named Interim Executive Director of Helix Charter High School.  Dr. Hughes began the first two years of his career as an English teacher in Modesto, California.  He spent the next 30 years in the Poway Unified School District, where he entered as a high school English teacher and worked his way up to Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education and then Assistant Superintendent of Personnel.  After Poway, he served as the Superintendent of Escondido USD for 6 years.   Dr. Hughes brings a wealth of experience and multiple perspectives.  We believe that he has what it will take to continue our tradition of educational excellence and innovation during this interim time.

 

The Helix Charter Board has in place a plan for the selection of the long-term Executive Director and hope to have that person in place before the beginning of the school year. However, the Board is prepared to take as much time as is needed to be sure the right person is selected for the position; if that person has not been found by August, Dr. Hughes will continue as Interim Executive Director for as long as it takes to complete the selection process.
